DOES AUSTIN KIDS FIRST HAVE ANY FULL-TIME STAFF?

Austin Kids First has contracted with staff and anticipate having a full-time Executive Director starting in Spring 2017.

IS AUSTIN KIDS FIRST AFFILIATED WITH STAND FOR CHILDREN, CHILDREN FIRST, IDEA PUBLIC SCHOOLS, TEACH FOR AMERICA, AISD CENTRAL OFFICE, OR ANY CHARTER-SCHOOL GROUP?

No. We have no official or unofficial agreement with any of these organizations. Our members come from many various backgrounds. However, Austin Kids first works completely independently of the agendas of these organizations and, in fact, advocates for an open discourse between all educational organizations with influence in the Austin area.

We lower the barriers to engaging and increase community participation in education issues to influence policy and practice at the campus and district level to better serve students and families.

WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO?

We increase civic engagement in issues impacting education to change systems through providing relevant information and organizing community members to engage.

WHY START A NON-PROFIT? DON’T WE HAVE ENOUGH OF THOSE?

There are many great organizations in Central Texas providing direct support to students in our schools. We are taking a different approach to improving educational outcomes. We use the power of civic engagement to change local education systems to advance equity and excellence. We don’t want to compete with other organizations, but rather collaborate with others already working education to advocate for improved educational outcomes for all of Austin’s kids.
